Welcome. Opened by Rocco Stanziano in 1922, this traditional Italian gem in the heart of Greenwich Village, has been serving home-style food beloved by a local neighborhood crowd; as well as a growing number of fans elsewhere in Manhattan, the outer boroughs, nearby states and abroad.
Over the years Rocco has been a prime destination for anyone looking to have a satisfying meal with family and friends, or a business meal with colleagues or clients. It is also a hang-out for some of the NYU academic crowd, Village theater and music buffs, as well as a nostalgic return trip for many who have moved to the suburbs.
Just one visit and you'll understand what regulars already know....the veteran staff and owner are as friendly as their food. Stop in and chat anytime. Eating alone? Don't worry, you won't feel alone at Rocco.
The food at Rocco is typical southern Italian but cooked to perfection. Red sauces abound, but the ever-changing daily specials give even non-Neopolitan fans a chance to be very happy.
The home-made gnocchi gorgonzola is incredibly delicious; juicy roast rack of lamb is always on the board, as are veal, chicken and fish specials; the garlic grilled calamari, served with white beans and baby greens, is outstanding. Of course, if you like clams, mussels, shrimp, or any kind of pasta, we've got that too!
Cold or hot zabaglione with fresh strawberries is a particular summer treat; caramel roasted pears are a winter delight. Other great desserts include amazing home-made ricotta cheese cake, fantastic tiramisu, and -- most renowned -- filled-to-order cannoli that have the critics raving.
All kinds of after-dinner drinks, including special grappas, are available; but Rocco's own recipe limoncello is absolutely unique and often on the house.
